Intel Extensible Host Controller Driver Windows 7 Not Working
(Debugging steps to help investigate the root-cause, not a solution)
This is for anyone who's encountering an issue with devices that don't work when plugged into a USB 3 port on a machine running Windows 8, with the symptom that the device is not functional AND the Device Manager app shows the device yellow-banged out with 'Code 43'.
Feb 5, 2017 - Very frustrated and I am not sure why Windows 7 isn't playing nice.intel.com/product/65855/Intel-USB-3-0-eXtensible-Host-Controller-Driver. Oddly the USB ports seem to work on my computer, just not when it tries to. I've been trying to install the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver (version 3.0.0.16 as supplied by the Asus web site) but it balks when it gets to the PCI bus. Intel USB3 driver install fails. Intel USB 3.0 extensible host controller not working with Windows 7 64 bit. How to achieve USB 3 speeds on USB 3 ports? According to Intel and Dell, by board is technically a 'desktop' board and they therefore do not support Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller drivers for Windows Server 2008 (R2 x64). I'm trying to find a workaround. I found an entry on someone who tried to tackle this, but I can't make his fix work for me. The instructions below show how to capture a log file that will help diagnose this, based on the Microsoft Windows USB blog here:
- Open an elevated command prompt window
One way is to type 'command prompt' on the Start screen. Right-click on the Command Prompt shown in the result, and select Run as administrator.
- Start a capture session by pasting this sequence of commands into the command prompt window:
logman create trace -n usbtrace -o %SystemRoot%Tracingusbtrace.etl -nb 128 640 -bs 128
logman update trace -n usbtrace -p Microsoft-Windows-USB-USBXHCI (Default,PartialDataBusTrace)
logman update trace -n usbtrace -p Microsoft-Windows-USB-UCX (Default,PartialDataBusTrace)
logman update trace -n usbtrace -p Microsoft-Windows-USB-USBHUB3 (Default,PartialDataBusTrace)
logman update trace -n usbtrace -p Microsoft-Windows-USB-USBPORT
logman update trace -n usbtrace -p Microsoft-Windows-USB-USBHUB
logman update trace -n usbtrace -p Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-IoTrace 0 2
logman start -n usbtrace
- Perform the action that you want to capture. For example, plug in a USB flash drive that shows up as an Unknown device in Device Manager. Keep the command prompt window open.
- Stop the session when you're finished by pasting this sequence of commands into the same command prompt window:
logman stop -n usbtrace
logman delete -n usbtrace
move /Y %SystemRoot%Tracingusbtrace_000001.etl %SystemRoot%Tracingusbtrace.etl
- Upload the file %SystemRoot%Tracingusbtrace.etl to SkyDrive or similar, e.g. see instructions to upload to SkyDrive here:
- Send a link to the uploaded file.

Hmm, Update Advisor said it wasn't supported, no link for it?
You link is for W7, not W8? Computer properties however says that the host controller is working OK?
I've hit a different problem with Windows Update. The C216 SATA controller update FAILS to install. Released 10/28/2012, but I got the Dell file from 2/2012 and it is working fine? One reason could be the Dell one is newer, but not by version number? Odd? I've hidden that update as the disks are OK.
One annoying W8 problem I have and can't seem to find an answer to or fix is the Live Tiles. The Weather for instance will show the weather on the Start screen, but when clicked, NADA.. all I see is a blue screen with a white sun on the upper left and circling dots on top center. IT DID WORK before, default location was London and I changed it to my city. Then deleted London.. Other tiles do the same thing as well? I did change the UAC settings, and I've seen comments on the web that that could effect this and set it back to the second from the top. Did that, re-booted, no difference.. ANNOYING..

iata_cd.exe (C216 Sata Controller) Should install for you as it is a Standard Intel Update. Mac os high sierra compatible apps.
The Intel Windows 7 USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver fixes most Standard Intel systems to run Windows 8.
I don't know because yours is an OEM Proprietary System.
